A forensic expert said he prayed that he and his team would not find a pattern in the deaths of the children who were given Dengvaxia; hoping that the rest of the children inoculated with the world’s first anti-dengue vaccine would be safe.
To his dismay, Dr. Erwin Erfe, director of the Public Attorneys’ Office (PAO) Forensic Laboratory, said they were saddened to find a pattern in the deaths of the children vaccinated with Dengvaxia.
At the request of the children’s families, Dr. Erfe’s team conducted forensic examinations on bodies of children who died within six months after receiving Dengvaxia.
As mentioned in Philstar, a 10-year-old girl from Quezon City was the first to be examined by the forensic experts. According to the girl’s death certificate, she died of lupus, but Dr. Erfe said they found that she had enlarged kidneys, liver and spleen. Her liver weighed a kilo which is not normal for a child her age.
A 10-year-old boy in Laguna who supposedly died of ruptured appendix was also found having enlarged organs and bleeding lungs, while an 11-year-old boy from Cavite was found to have suffered bleeding from the brain, lungs, heart and liver. Dr. Erfe said he also had enlarged organs.
“They all died within six months after receiving the vaccine. Their health condition went rapidly downhill,” Dr. Erfe said.
