The camp of Vice President Leni Robredo has sneered at former senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s claim he won the vice presidential race in 2016.
Abogado Romulo Macalintal said it’s presumptuous for Marcos to claim he is the vice president or he was dreaming.
“If he won as vice president, why is it that it was Robredo who was proclaimed by Congress as winner?” asked Macalintal, Robredo’s lead counsel in the poll protest lodged by Marcos.
Earlier in the day, Marcos turned down running for senator in 2019, saying he is bent on finishing the electoral protest he filed against Robredo.
Macalintal believes Marcos is claiming to be the vice president to preempt the results of the vote recount. He said the process will prove the former senator’s claim of massive election cheating as “ridiculous” and “frivolous.”
“It is our strong position based on past recount of ballots in previous automated polls that no one has ever won in a recount of automated ballots,” the abogado added.
Macalintal said the results of the recount will just tally with the results generated by the vote counting machines from the automated election system, which Marcos himself admitted to be credible.
“We hope that Mr. Marcos is not using this protest for political media mileage,” he said.
